Have you ever found yourself in a position in which you could do nothing right? If you do it one way, people complain. If you do it the opposite way people complain again. Meanwhile, all you’re doing is basing your thoughts and decisions off of the biblical principles of the Bible. Even worse since you use the bible as the foundation of your decision making, any mention of it is met with contention. All of a sudden you are ‘self-righteous’, a ‘bible-beater’, ‘Holier than though’ etc. You get in a position where no matter what you do, since it is not the way the world would do it, it is wrong!

          Well you’re in good company. Christ found Himself in the same position. No matter what He did, it didn’t please the “religious folk” (Pharisees and Sadducees).

 18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say,

‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.” (Mathew 11:18-19)

           In some people’s eyes you just can’t win. In fact, we should not even be surprised when haters hate. Christ already warned us that they would.

        “And you shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.” (Mathew 10:22)

 We must keep in mind if they hated Christ, then surely they will hate the Christ in you.

          “ It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub,[a] how much more will they call those of his household! 26  (Mathew 10:25)

 Christ’s answer to the haters, in the very next verse.

 “Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.” (Mathew 10:26)

           Do not fear them because there is only one lawgiver who is able to save and destroy (James 4:12). Fear them not for love will always prevail against hate. Fear them not because truth shall always trump the lie. (Proverbs 12:19) Fear them not because the Christ in you will always prosper against any nastiness, spitefulness and intended harm. Fear them not because God has your back. As it says above all that haters do will come to light, and what ever is done in the love of Christ will last.

          So since haters are gonna’ hate, what shall our response be? Continue in following God’s will for your life. Continue in mercy, continue in grace and continue in prayer.  Do not be vengeful, but instead show love since love never fails (1 Corinthians 13).

“21 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat;
      And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
       22 For so you will heap coals of fire on his head,
      And the LORD will reward you.” Proverbs 25:21-22
